General Program Description
The Competition 1 Program is for athletes born in 1995 and 1996. Competition 1 Program Athletes train four days each week varying depending on the athlete event areas, but typically Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. This program is competition based for athletes who are striving for more intensive training and competitive opportunities, but are unable or not ready to commit to a full time training program.
Along with a Coordinating Coach, there are event-specific coaches for all event areas including sprints, hurdles, high jump, long jump, distance/cross country, relays, starts and throws. The program is competition based, and specialization does occur, but athletes are still encouraged to try and participate in a broad range of events.
Competitions
It is recommended that Competition 1 Athletes take part in all local Saskatoon Track meets, our out of town competition trips, provincial championships and provincial teams they are invited to. The dates for the meets are located at the back of this booklet. If you have any questions about the meets please talk to your athletes coach. Also, National Championship participation begins at this stage.
STFC offers a subsidy on all travel trips including National Championships, with the club picking up 30% of the cost.
Fees
There is a set volunteer commitment for each athlete as well as the Track Membership Fees. The dollar amount for this commitment can be recouped once the required hours are completed.
